Description
Near Blodgett Pass in Montana and Idaho’s Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, another snowstorm rolls down Blodgett Creek Canyon.
As I snowshoed westward through the great wilderness, to get through the deep powder, I had to drop the 80-pound pack, posthole a trail, return and tote the load up the new trail, and then repeat. In this manner, I traveled 50 miles for 16 days before arriving at the Lochsa Lodge located on Highway 12 in Idaho.
The following summer, my wife and I would walk 27 miles of the same route in four days; two of those days were through a serious timber fall.
